The Name Oving
What's in a name...?
As with a number of place names, OVING has been spelt in different ways over the years. In 1575 it was OWUINGE. The other Oving in Buckinghamshire has claimed OUINGES, OUINGGES, OWUING, OWVING and OVEING over the years!

A number of local people adhere to the O-VING pronunciation, others favour OOVING-Which do you think it should be?

Then of course there's Shopweek.....! Comments to webmaster

Reply from Mrs Machan, one time resident of Oving
'It's definitely O-VING- that's how any local person would pronounce it!'
The word Oving is also is rumoured to have something to do with a sheep's foot-any more information available?-contact webmaster.
