Dear Parishioners,
Postal deliveries in the village
There were complaints at the Annual Parish Meeting in May that the
delivery of mail in Oving seemed to be getting later and later.
According to the Royal Mail, there is no set time in the day by
which deliveries should be made. However, they do try to deliver all
mail by 2pm in urban areas and Oving post should not be much later
than this. Post is always delivered earlier on a Saturday because of
the reduction of mail arriving into the Delivery Offices.
At times in the spring, when the complaints were made, our regular
postie was off sick and his job was covered by colleagues; this
should therefore be a rare occurrence.
However if you do have further concerns, you are advised to contact
the Royal Mail on 08457 740 740 or , quoting reference 1-67501443.
Alternatively, you can make a complaint to Postwatch on 08456 013265
or writing to Freepost Postwatch.
Keeping the Parish tidy!
Since the last edition of the OPN reached you, I am pleased to be
able to announce a new service in our area, that of the Highways
Rangers. This is a team of people from the Highways Agency who visit
different areas on a rolling programme and are employed primarily to
improve the “Street Scene”. Work may include cleaning signs, cutting
back vegetation, doing small repairs. They visit once every 5 weeks
and attempt to carry out any jobs recommended by residents. Their
next visits are the weeks of: 22 December, 26 January, 2 March. Most
recently I have had reports of problems in Challen Close; at the
time of writing, I am not sure if this work has been completed. If
you have any requests, please contact me and I will pass them on.
On a more negative note, it would seem as if some Oving residents
throw their garden compost over their fences. This is unsightly for
neighbours and would seem a waste of the Rangers’ time to clear up
(not forgetting that they are paid through our Council Tax!) |

Greetings from the new Parish Clerk! |
|
I took over this role from Roger
Parsons in June and have since been learning something new every
day!
Having been a secondary school French teacher for 16 years, working
from home in the village and dealing with accounts and tons of post
and emails has been a really new adventure!
What is a Parish Clerk? I certainly knew very little this time last
year, but for those of you who don’t know, I am the paid officer for
the Parish Council. I act as the Council’s mailbox and so deal with
correspondence on a daily basis, forwarding items to relevant
councillors. I am also responsible for the Parish Council’s
accounts. I am not elected and have no authority to act alone, but
if you wish to make a representation to the Parish Council, I will
pass on issues to be discussed and acted on in the Council meetings.
Please find my details on the first page.
The Parish Council meetings are held bi-monthly on a Wednesday (the
next two are on 14 January and 18 March) in Oving Jubilee Hall and
are open to the public. Do look out for details on the Parish notice
boards nearer the time and come and find out what is happening in
your parish.
