I hope everyone has
read the various initiatives that we can all undertake to reduce our
individual impact on the environment. Here are very simple things
that collectively make a big difference. As well as saving you money
instantly. Using as little
electricity as possible
- Turning off lights when they
are not needed.
- Turning TVs and similar
equipment. off at the plug rather than on standby which can use
the same as half the power as when they are being used.
- Not leaving charging devices
on at the socket, again this uses almost a much power as when
charging.
Conserve heat
- If you turn your thermostat
down by one degree it can affect your heating bill
significantly.
Conserve water
- Make sure the hot water that
comes out of your tap is only as hot as it needs to be, adding
cold water is a waste.
- Don’t leave taps running to do
the washing up or brush your teeth.
- Use a bucket instead of a hose
to wash your car.
- Shower instead of using a
bath.
Use the car less
- Ask neighbours and friends if
they need lifts or anything picked up from the shops to stop two
people getting into separate cars to do the same thing.
Try our bus service. This is now
much more direct to Chichester and more frequent than it has been in
the past, if we don’t use it we might loose it.
Where does your food come from?
- How many miles has your food
had to go before it gets to you? If we all made decisions on
what we buy based on this shops will adjust to our demands.
- When buying anything new to
replace things that have broken be sure to see how efficient
they are by their Energy Performance Certificate, this will make
them cheaper to run.
