Planning and Development. The District Council has told all parishes that they
should do a parish plan if their views are to be considered seriously
in the forthcoming Local Development Framework consultation – so
Oving’s recent efforts place us in a good position.
Meanwhile I have started discussions with the County Council
Highways over how to resolve Shopwyke’s traffic problems in the
light of potential A27 developments and the proposed development of
the Tarmac site in 2008.
Roads and Traffic.
Good news! County
Council Highways have promised that they will build red gateways to
provide traffic calming for Oving village during the current financial
year. I am expecting
initial designs soon. They
have also promised to deploy SID (portable speed measuring) regularly
once the county gets its seven sets of SID equipment.
I have asked them to add Shopwyke Lane to the list of sites for
SID deployment. Finally,
the Highways people have tidied up the junction of the lane to Oving
where verges were being churned up by the Stagecoach bus.
Crime and Anti-social Behaviour. Thanks
to our representations to the District Council, Oving will be one of
the few parishes to get the benefit of a new initiative that will, in
the autumn, see the appointment of a team comprising two Police
Community Support Officers and two Community Wardens, dedicated seven
days a week to Oving, Tangmere and Boxgrove. More about this in the next issue of OPN.
Oving Recreation Ground. The
Community Action Group is working hard to develop a long term plan for
the Recreation Ground. In the short term a youth shelter and five-a-side goals will
be installed.
A Cycle Path to Chichester. The
County Council Highways department has committed to having detailed
plans for extending the Chichester to Tangmere cycle link onwards to
Oving by October. A more
direct cycle route via Shopwyke continues to appear impossible for
safety reasons.
Support for Parents and Children. Lorraine
Carswell’s play
scheme for children up to three years starts in Oving Jubilee Hall
on Thursday 9th September.
Public Transport.
Oving village still clings on to its under-utilised bus
service. The Parish Council has again looked into providing a bus stop
in the village, but lack of a suitable location and the potential high
cost are big obstacles.

Shopping. The
Parish Council has set up a sub-committee to conduct a proper
feasibility study into the possibility of a village shop.>>more
