| About
the Friends |
The
Friends of St Andrew's Church was started some 15 years ago to raise
money solely for the upkeep of the church building. Our beautiful
church has always been such a focal point in the village and is
a place of great history, beauty and peace and we do want to
preserve it for the benefit of future generations. The fundraising
events organised by the Friends have always been great fun, having
provided happy get-togethers for the local community as well as
financial benefits to the church. With the monies raised we have
funded many projects, some small, some of major significance,
amongst which are
- £7,000 raised from local
businesses to re-shingle the church spire,
- funding to provide floodlighting
of the church
- the renovation of stonework
- replacement of the steel guards
that support and protect the beautiful stained glass
windows.
There is still a need for
funding
- to replace the church heating
system
- to carry out woodwork repairs to
the flooring and roof,
- plus many other smaller but
important areas of refurbishment.
The threat to closure of our
church has encouraged us to revive the Friends and and we now have
eleven enthusiastic members of the committee dedicated to ensuring
that our church continues for the long-term future.
